Jewelry Boxes

Here's my Christmas Break projects.

This is what it looked like before I decided to get crafty:


I decided to paint the jewelry box gray (though I think it looks pretty blue).

Then I lined the inside with a black and white polka dot fabric and a yellow and white striped fabric.


Then I put a black and white patterned paper on the sides and on the drawers. The finished product looks like this.


I decided not to do anything with the mirrors on the front. I kind of like them. I may try to trace the flowers with a darker paint, but for now, I think they are fine.

I also decided to play with my sisters jewelry box. She's 12 and never used it before because she thought it was too ugly and childish. Here's what it looked like before:


She painted it pink and yellow and we put yellow striped fabric on the insides. Then we took an old gift bag and put the patterned paper on the top of the jewelry box. The polka dot paper also came from the gift bag and we put heart shaped pieces on the handles. It turned out pretty cute.


Now I need a new project because I'm starting to get bored. :)

Jewelry Box

I bought this cool jewelry box yesterday when I was thrift store shopping. It's really cool and I want to use it but it needs a little touching up.


I need some inspiration! Any ideas?

My Snow Day

So, I decided I should go ahead and finish all my art projects I've been working on for my new room. Yes, the one that has no walls or floors right now. At least it has pretty things to hang on the walls that will soon be put up. :)

Then I finished my bulletin board. I am going to put a black frame around the whole thing, I just have to spray paint the frame first. :)

Headboard

I really love this headboard idea. There are step-by-step directions on this website. The question is, "Am I ambitious enough to do it?"

Pictures of the New House

I wanted to post some pictures of the new house. I don't really have any good ones, but I have two and as soon as I actually take some pictures, I will post them. Promise.



This is the front part of the house. I love the porch! We are close to getting our occupancy permit so we may be moving in soon. We also want to knock down a wall and expand the kitchen, so we may not. Everything is all still up in the air...what's new?



This is the log cabin side of the house. I also love this porch. Apparently, I'm a porch girl. The inside of the log cabin is just a huge open room with a loft above half of the room. I think we are going to attempt to have our 30-person-Thanksgiving in the log cabin because we can all sit at one long table. I will definitely document that one.

I will leave you with a picture of my sister in the woods. We found some huge leaves out by the creek. She just looks so happy about that leaf.

My New Room

A few months ago my parents bought a new house. It has a log cabin attached to the house that was built back in the 1800's. It is on 12 acres of land with woods all around it. I am becoming quite a pioneer woman actually. I chopped up a tree the other day with an axe. (I'm still a little sore from it.) I love this house and really can't wait to get the occupancy permit so we can move in. The house has 4 bedrooms upstairs and my dad is currently working on finishing the basement where my sister and I will live.

Needless to say, I am super excited to start designing my new bedroom! I want a black, gray, yellow and white theme. Similar to this one:



I love the bedspread and stripes in this and I think I want my walls to be this dark gray color.



I really really really love these lamps! They are so fun!



I love this yellow chair and am really hoping to have room in my new bedroom for a chair like this to read and relax in!




Finally, I like this wall decal and I'm kind of thinking I want to put some kind of pretty design on my wall. I also think the rug is really interesting in this room. I'm not too sure it's my style, but it's pretty fun.

So far these are my thoughts for my new room. If you have ideas for me, please let me know. I am very open to suggestions and super excited for my new room!

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go

Today, I went to work at the pool for the first time in two weeks. I taught a boy who was deathly afraid of the water. I always try to distract kids from their fear by talking to them about their family or things that they like. I asked this boy how old he was and he said, "I'm five...no, I'm six. I don't know." I looked at him surprised he did not know how old he was. Then he said nervously, "I think I'm eight."

After about fifteen minutes of coaxing, I convinced him to get away from the wall and walk with me into the deeper water. He completely panicked, so I started to explain my job to him. I said, "I am here to keep you above the water. If I let you sink, I wouldn't be doing my job. You have to trust me and know that I will not let you go." He looked at me and said, "OK, I'm going to trust you, but if you let me go, we're going back to the wall."

I started thinking about my trust in God. I feel like I see him a lot like that boy saw me. I say, "OK, God, I trust you, but if you let me go..." I can't imagine how God reacts when I put such limited trust in him. When the boy in the pool said, "but if you let me go" I just smiled at him. There was no way I would have let him go under water. I wonder if God just smiles at me when I say, "but if you let me go," knowing he's not going to let me go.

This song popped in to my head while I was walking around with that little guy. I just wanted to share it with whoever happens to read this. :)
